Guild News Early Fall Edition

Hello and Welcome to the Early Fall Edition of our Guild News.

We will catch you up on what is currently happening and what we are currently planning. We've seen a much larger slowdown between WoW expansions than we have seen in all the previous years. Some of our core members have been unusually busy this year with real life work projects and have not been able to make any time to game other than sporadically. Along with the release of a few new MMO’s earlier this year and with a lot more content now continually rolling into The Old Republic we have members spread out all over the place.  Although several of our members have already pre-purchased the next expansion and we expect more to do so before release.

Remember Mumble is our guild’s VOIP client. Download the latest version from Mumble.com or SourceForge for the PC, the Mac and the iPhone. Be sure to use the Audio Wizard when setting it up for the first time and you’ll avoid all the hassles with troubleshooting.  Once you are in, select yourself and then click register so we can add you to the access control groups. Please use a name we would recognize.
If you still need help, please ask Miroki in Guild Chat.

Special Recognition goes out our Guild Officers on Alterac Mountain who have been actively keeping our guild alive and re-leveled back up to level 23. Only 2 to go!

Important News Flash !!

Blizzard has recently announced that in preparation for the release of the new Warlords of Draenor expansion, they will be releasing ALL inactive character names for reuse by anyone creating a new character or by paid name change service. This change will automatically go into effect on the next World of Warcraft expansion pre-patch. If you have any names that you want to preserve, you will need to log in to World of Warcraft and enter the game using each character whose name you wish to retain ASAP.

Connected Realms Update

Since Alterac Mountain was successfully connected to the Balnazzar, Gorgonnash, Forgotten Coast, and Warsong realms, we have seen a steady rise in activity. This being just the first phase in getting all our gang back together again. The Auction House is fairly robust now and it’s good and rather surprising to see crowds gather at the auction houses even in places like Shat city and Dalaran. Selling prices are close to the realm wide average. Most common items fetching prices higher than that of Mal’Ganis with more rare items higher than average. So far I am pleased with the increase in activity. We are even starting to get requests to join our guild although we have yet to begin formal advertisements. Several members have begun leveling alts on Alterac Mountain in preparation for the next expansion.  It does look very promising now that All of Burial Detail will be able to participate together as we had hoped with the release of the new expansion as all of the new content including normal and heroic raids will be cross realm.  We are still planning on doing some heavy recruiting for both Alterac Mountain and Mal’Ganis guilds once we firm up our real life schedules and have a more active presence.

Meanwhile we encourage All Returning Members on Kel’Thuzad and Alterac Mountain to get in contact with one of the officers if you are interested in cross realm grouping so we can help each other level up and gear up.  Contact Miroki or Sumiko in Mumble for more information.  If you have recently pre-purchased the new expansion and was thinking of using the free boost to 90 and you don’t currently have a toon on Mal’Ganis, you might want to consider boosting a new toon there.

Beta Time Beta Time Beta Time !!!!

I am sorry to report that we have not had a chance to test out the beta more in-depth yet with our time constraints. Hopefully things will settle down some in real life and we will get more time to dive in and check out all the features and we will have an update for you in the next guild news edition.

Here are some of the changes we did have a chance to test since our last news update:

  • They have improved the character customization. It looks a lot better. Looks like they still have some more work to do on it though.
  • Last time we reported a new bag sort feature. They also added a setting where you can choose what categories of items automatically drops into which bags. The categories are: Equipment, Consumables, or Trade Goods. Borders are now colored to indicate quality of the item. Recently looted items have a glow.
  • The world map and quest log is more tightly integrated and with the new tabbed drop downs it is easier to jump to another map. The map now fades out when moving much like the map in SWTOR.
  • The pet and mount interface added a new tab for toys that you can collect so they no longer take up room in your bags. You can now set your favorite mounts and by selecting Shift-P it will pick a random mount for you from your favorites depending on your current zone.
  • Your bank now has a separate section for crafting mats which is the size of your basic bank. It costs 100 gold to unlock. There is a button to deposit all your mats from your bags into the bank.
  • When you craft it automatically pulls mats from your crafting mats section of your bank no matter where you are in the world. The add-on manager is now in game.

Future Progression Plans

In a surprising twist this past month, we did some atypical role switching. Rav led a combined Burial Detail – Blood Diamond group on his Lixer tank with Sumi healing on her new shammy. As you can guess one of our goals is to be more dynamic and flexible in our future raid makeup so we don’t need to wait on anyone in particular. Just form and go.

Having been in talks with our partner guilds; we plan on having at least one joint team with Blood Diamond. No details yet other than that they would prefer Burial Detail to lead the raid groups. We already have the Guild Calendars linked between the two guilds and we are looking for a means of possibly linking guild chat as well. What we are really interested in is linking guild chat between Alterac and Mal’Ganis.

Several of us have been taking the time to develop out more of our characters across both Alterac and Mal’Ganis to give us that flexibility of having more options for solid teams once we begin moving through the new WoD content.  If we have enough interested members online any evening we will form a group to do whatever is of greatest interest: SoO Flex, Norm, BGs, or Older content.

Other Guild Gaming News

This game keeps getting Better and Better as more and more content and storyline keeps rolling out at a fast pace compared to other MMO’s. This game has greatly improved overall compared to what it was when it first launched with new updates, features, story arcs, etc.

Now for some teasers for their upcoming Third Expansion. Remember going up against this guy?

Oh crap, well guess what? He did survive like some of us thought by force blinking away and makes a teaser appearance in the new Rakata Prime Flashpoint. He is now leading the Revanites and uses the Star Forge to build an Infinite Rakata Army.

It has been hinted that the third expansion will be called SOR, possibly Shadows of Revan?

Star Wars: The Old Republic is the only other MMO I truly miss playing. I miss my crew and I miss my characters and I miss the story that draws you in. The raids that Burial Detail was able to clear before Mists of Pandaria came out were challenging and a whole lot of fun. So were the in-game special events like the Rakghoul Plague. It was a blast. This game is one that needs to be savored for its story, lore and characters that you play and not just burned through. I had hoped that between WoW expansions we may as a guild return to The Bastion and get back into the stories of The Old Republic but many of us are finding we can barely spare the time for one MMO.

For those that have never played the game and are curious, the combat system is similar to WoW except that you can queue your abilities in a sequence and they will play out in that order and you can hide behind stuff to avoid getting hit. Also the skill trees allow for fine tuning a character much like WoW used to be. If you go solo, one of your crew members can accompany you and depending on their class can either tank, heal, or dps. Quite unlike the hunter pets in WoW, they are customizable through gear and they have a lot of various abilities which can be enabled or disabled allowing you to tailor their AI to the current situation.  They gather mats for you, craft for you, heal, dps, or tank for you plus have stories arcs of their own.

Our current acting GM is Benmont also known as Corbantis, a long time original Burial Detail member from the Burning Crusade and former player of Star Wars Galaxies.

Our guild Burial Detail is located on The Bastion realm. If you were a part of Burial Detail when the game first launched and have not played since the Super Server update project, your characters are sitting in a temporary guild called The Lost Vulkars. You will need to contact Miroki or Benmont to re-join Burial Detail.

If anyone from WoW is interested in checking this game out, please let Miroki know so he can get you hooked up with our Burial Detail Guild in The Old Republic.

This is a different style of indie MMO developed by Muse Games that has great potential. It is still under active development and only the PvP portion of the game has been released so far.

The game setting is a Steam Punked version of a post-apocalyptic future where the only true means of global travel left is via Airship. They are winners of two major game awards and three Steam features and have showcased their game to attendees at E3 and PAX.

This year they began showing off some of the PvE adventure portion of the game which is still in development. Attendees of E3 and PAX were treated to some of the missions and first views of some boss fight encounters of a new kind.

Here is a map of what the current known world and trade routes looks like

For years clusters of civilizations were walled off from each other after the world brought itself to ruin during the Great War. Resource starvation, global warming, unpredictable dust storms, and disease reduced humanity to merely a glimpse of its former self. It took many years for people to pick up where civilization had left off. It was only through the reintroduction of airships that exploration, communication, and trade between long stretches of terrain was possible again. People started to learn that they were not the only ones who had survived, that there were others out there… but others who were not quite like themselves.
From the isolation that was brought upon by the years of desolation, six dominant ways of thinking emerged. Each of these six factions have grown out of the same dust covered world but have formed six different ways on how the future should take shape. Players take part in this constantly changing world where each faction works to expand the borders of their empires and spheres of influence by whatever means necessary.

Who is in the right? Who has the upper hand? Who deserves a chance?
Who will you fight for?

If anyone is interested, ask Miroki how to get started.

Well that pretty much wraps it up for this edition of the guild news. We hope to have more for you next month.

And Remember
